2020 Global Contest for the Best China-Focused Cases: Call for Submissions

Page Contents

To further promote teaching cases with a focus on the Chinese business context, the Steering Committee of the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform is pleased to announce the launch of the 2020 Global Contest for the Best China-Focused Cases. The contest is open to case developers both inside and outside China.
The contest particularly welcomes those cases that examine China-focused issues from a global perspective together with high-quality, in-depth teaching notes that incorporate theoretical analyses and/or best practices in their focal areas. During the past five years, the contest has welcomed 1,020 cases by 1,160 authors from 240 colleges and institutions in China and around the world. Numerous high-quality cases have emerged from the contest and 484 cases have been accepted and published by ChinaCases.Org. Forty-six of these cases have won awards. By focusing on the emerging and critical management issues, these cases have ignited intense discussions and enriched classroom teaching, and have ultimately inspired and changed management practices (learn more about our past winners at http://www.chinacases.org).
To further conform to the standards and requirements of international case libraries, and promote diversity of the participating cases, this year’s contest has made slight modifications to the case submission requirements, review criteria and prize categories. However, as always, the basic principles of fairness, justice and standardisation remain unchanged. Please see below for details.

PRIZE CATEGORIES
All awards (prizes and award certificates) will be granted by the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform.

A prize of
RMB 100,000 (pre-tax)

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

We welcome China-focused cases that address management issues confronted by any company that either operates in China or operates outside of China but is China-based. The cases should be based on authors’ comprehensive observations and in-depth research efforts. The most desirable teaching notes shall incorporate relevant theories, concepts, frameworks, analytical methods or tools.
The submitter shall submit the case through the Online Submission System after completing the user registration process. The submitter shall be the author of the case or someone who has been legally authorised to submit the case by the copyright owner.
Only teaching cases (as opposed to research cases) are eligible for the contest. We encourage cases based on the author’s own field research and interviews. In the absence of field research, library cases based on second-hand materials are also eligible.
Regardless of whether it is a field-researched case or a library case, the case author should obtain permission from the copyright holder and clearly mark the source of the information when using or quoting others’ works or work materials (including but not limited to illustrations, tables, data, reports, theories, analytical frameworks and reference literature). In submitting a case to ChinaCases.Org, the case author asserts that he or she has obtained the consent or authorization of the copyright holders. Furthermore, the case author shall ensure that the submitted case complies with academic norms and the requirements of national intellectual property laws and regulations. Finally, The case author shall assume full responsibility for all copyright issues related to the submitted case, including but not limited to plagiarism and infringement.
Submitted cases should be in either Chinese or English. Each case must be accompanied by a teaching note (in the same language as the case). In addition to traditional text cases, we welcome video cases and other new forms of cases. Regardless of the case form, the case must be accompanied by a written teaching note in the same language as the case. Considering students’ learning experience and the standard case length required by international case libraries, this year’s contest will add case length to the review criteria. In principle, the maximum length for Chinese cases is 12 pages (including exhibits and appendices), and English cases are 15 pages (including exhibits and appendices). Chinese cases should not exceed 10,000 characters and English cases should not exceed 6,000 words.

The above points on submission requirements are provided for convenience purposes and
are subject to the Submission Guidelines of the Online Submission System.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

1. The Legality of the Submitter
Case submitters should fully read and understand the Submission Guidelines and Copyright Statement and sign both documents online.

2. Authorization for Case Acceptance
Once a submitted case is accepted by ChinaCases.Org, the submitter should grant ChinaCases.Org legal use of the case by means of licensing or transfer of rights.
For cases submitted by institutions other than members of the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform, the submitter shall then grant to CEIBS an irrevocable, global, non-exclusive license under which CEIBS, through ChinaCases.Org, is fully authorized to copy, publish, distribute, transmit, or otherwise use the case. The authorisation of content shall be executed in accordance with the Submission Guidelines, Copyright Statement and Approval for Participation and Non-Exclusive License.
For cases submitted by members of the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform, the copyright attribution of the case and other matters shall be executed in accordance with relevant management regulations of the platform and the Shanghai Member School Copyright Statement signed by the author.
In order to prevent authorisation conflicts, the submitted cases should in principle not have been published elsewhere. If the submitted case was previously published, the submitter should provide the details of other licensees, relevant agreements and a confirmation letter signed by other licensees.

3. The Legality of Content
If the case is based on field research, the case author must simultaneously submit a Case Content Confirmation Letter signed by the company (or organisation/ institution) related to the case with the official seal and the signature of the manager.
The case submitter shall ensure that the case does not contain any content or element that may violate any laws, regulations or rules or infringe on any third-party rights. If any third party claims that the case and the use of it violate their intellectual property rights or other legal rights, the case submitter shall be responsible for handling the aforesaid third party's claims and bear all expenses incurred therefrom.

  4. The case submitter fully understands the review process and complies with the review rules. At the same time, in line with international academic norms, multiple submissions to other institutions and/or contests are not allowed during the entry stage.

  5. The documents signed online and electronically scanned files submitted by the case submitter through a registered user account are legally valid and are legally binding once submitted successfully.

The right to interpret and amend the above legal requirements is owned by CEIBS.
All the above-mentioned copyright-related regulations and documents will be officially announced through
the Online Submission System.
The Online Submission System
will be accessible at publishing.chinacases.org beginning on September 1, 2020.
We look forward to your participation!
